The statistics recorded of people suffering injury and
sometimes death when using used hot tubs or swimming pools are
frightening. If you own one or are planning on buying one then
please take the time to digest the following rules to help you
avoid any disasters.
It's unlikely that you would leave a young child swimming on
their own without adult supervision but children can drown in
hot tubs or spas too. This can easily be avoided with the
purchase of a suitable lockable cover or fencing that includes
a self-locking gate. Better yet, install both for complete
peace of mind.
You will probably not be surprised to hear that drowning is
the number one cause of death in hot tubs but this statistic
doesn't just apply to children. Adults have been known to
suffer this fate simply through falling asleep. Remember that
the effects of the warm water and the jets are primarily there
to stimulate relaxation but spending too long in the tub can
cause dizziness, light-headedness and in some cases confusion.
Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations in terms of
how long you should spend in the hot tub at any one time.
Furthermore instruct anyone new to the tub of the inherent
dangers.
