The Sage answers: If you look on the pump's wet end you will see a plug on the end that can be loosened with a pair of pliers or a flat screwdriver. You can also unscrew either of the pumps unions and that will allow the water to slightly escape while releasing some of the air. A lot of time you can get the air out by simply turning the pump rapidly off and then to high speed. If this tub has a pressurized filter housing as some do you will need to literally hit it with a rubber mallet counter clockwise. Be prepared to buy a new locking ring. If this is your case try to loosen the screw to the top of the filter housing.

Charles asks… My hot tub won't heat!? I have a 1996 Sundance hot tub. We emptied it for a couple of months and I recently filled it but now it will not heat. The temperature changes as much as 10-15 degrees but not much higher. I took out the heater and had the element tested but it works fine, also the temperature sensor is working fine (tested it with a cup of hot water). All of the jets work and the hot tub seems to be running fine but won't get hot. Any ideas? Thanks.

Jenny asks… how come the jets in my sundance spa won't work? I have a sundance 680 hot tub and the power comes on, but I have no idea if the heater works. Also, when I push the buttons for the jets and air flow nothing happens. The lights come on but nothing else happens. The spa is about 6 years old. Any ideas?
The Sage answers: You need to check the power cord to the circuit board from your pumps and verify if they are getting the correct voltage/amps. If the electricty is indeed going to the pump then check it's capacitor that starts it. Most likely this is the problem. IF not then 1st get a new topside control, then a new circuit board. winter, and I can't get it out of this mode. Is there a way to reset it? The Sage answers: Sorry but turning the power off and on will not do anything for it. Your either replacing your your circuit board (most likely) or the blower has a switch that has fused on. (Less likely) The third thing could actually be your topside control. With 7 years working on Sundance's, you really need to get one of their people to look at it since they go through some great training. This is a new one on me, never had your problem happen yet. By the way, good choice in tubs.
John asks… Sundance Sentry 724 Hot Tub is locked and i need the sequence of keys to unlock it.? We have lost the docs that came with the hot tub and know that there is a sequence to lock the top side control, and a different sequence to unlock it. Do you know what it is?
The Sage answers: Sorry but it will have to wait until Sat. For me to get to the box with that manual in it. I will edit this answer tomorrow. Press DISPLAY, MODE and (the UP arrow button) within 3 seconds to Lock it. Press DISPLAY, MODE and (the Down arrow button) within 3 seconds to unlock it.
Chris asks… Can anyone help on a Sundance Hot Tub? The motor and air pump do not work sometimes. I have checked the fuses and all the wires. It will click in the control box when you push the button but not come on. Also this is intermittent. It does not do it all the time. Most of the time it works fine. The light always comes on any help??
The Sage answers: There may be a problem with the relay that controls it. The click sound it makes is the relay turning on and off. Try replacing the relay you can get them off eBay for cheap
Donald asks… Sundance Spa Hot Tub Screen Won't Turn On After faulty wiring of jet pump? I went to replace a 240v 2-speed jet pump on a Sundance Hot Tub today. After hooking up the new pump, the Spa powered up fine, but when I tried to turn on the Jets (that the new pump was powering), the screen flickered off. After further inspection, I realized (the hard way) that I had mixed up one of the hots and the common/neutral wires. When this all happened, it blew the GFI circuit breaker in the garage as well, but even once power was restored the the Hot Tub, the screen still wont come on nor will the heater or circulation pump. I have tried leaving it disconnected for over 45 min to let it reset but still no luck. There is definitely power going to the circuit board as indicated by an orange light on the outside of the circuit board box. Did I fry the whole circuit board? Is there a reset button? or a fuse that a might have blown? What are my next steps to diagnose the problem and can I fix is without replacing the whole board? thank you,
The Sage answers: I have had my share of fried circuit boards. Most times you can see the fried component. The board itself doesn't often go bad. In my experience the capacitors are the hardest hit. BUT I also have found to my great luck there is an on board fuse. Look for this first. Here is what most likely happened. I am sure you have at least a few exploded caps and maybe burnt
resistors and diodes.

Steven asks… troubleshooting question for sundance hot tub? I have a sundance hawthorne 680 and after i emptied and refilled it it kept flashing FL2. I think it was still heating and circulating but after trying to clear the air..someone told me air might be trapped in the lines now it doesn’t flash fl2 but is not heating although the pumps still go on…any ideas?
The Sage answers: To start you always want to unplug the spa when you drain and fill it. Second you want to try and fill it through the filter, just take the filter out and stick the hose in the opening. That will help flush out the air as you fill it up. As soon as you plug it in when it’s filled hit the jets and that will ensure all the air is out the lines. But back to your problem it sounds like it could be a couple of different things the heater could of dry fired, which is an air pocket in the heater, and burnt the element or it could just need to be reset. Some heaters have a reset like a GFI outlet, search for one and reset it if it has one. You could also try to just turn the spa off and on again and see what happens. Any other questions give me a buzz.

The Sage answers: Turn it off at the fuse box. Wait a few minutes and then turn back on. You just need to reset the electronic board. I do this for people all the time.
Chris asks… High power useage on a sundance hot tub? I have a Sundance Altamar 880 Hot Tub. It is 14 months old. It has a good quality cover and is built into the deck in a protected area close to the house. The power usage is extremely high, 2 to 3 times higher than friends with similar size tubs. The dealer told us it would cost $30 to $40 per month, which is in line with other tub owners we talked with. Our power bill is $60-70 higher in the summer and over $100-130 higher in the winter. The tub is used each
night for about 20-30 minutes, no jets,lights or pumps are turned on. It was wired in by an electrician and I had 2 other electricians out to inspect the work and it is fine. The current draw was measured for the heater, each pump and the circulation pump and they all draw the correct specified load. The dealer just wrings their hands, tells us how wonderful the tubs are, and goes on about how they have never heard of such a problem ( so then it must not exist…) In short they have done nothing. I even contacted the regional sales rep with no luck, not even a return call. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!!
The Sage answers: 30-40 dollars a month at idle use would sound about right to me. Seeing your using it everyday for 20-30 mins. And your only 60-70 thats would be about right based on usage pattern. The same would be true in the winter. Hot tubs are not cheap to run and own its just the nature of the beast. The only other possible issue could be that could have a bad circulating pump motor and its drawing higher amps and in turn jacking up the electrical bill.

The Sage answers: Hi can’t tell you how often I have changed out the light transformer on a Sundance. Hopefully yours is not Digital (newer models) and is just a simple matter of replacing the light bulb from any auto store. MOST LIKELY…it’s digital and the transformer is dead.
