Laura asks…
Other than medical, dental, vision, 401k etc, What would be a great new employee
benefit?
Beyond the normal average to great benefits many companies provide, as a worker, what
type of benefits would you appriciate the most? Gym membership, once a month spa treatment, comedy night
etc.
If you really wanted to make your employees feel appriciated, how would you reward
them beyond bonuses, compliments or promotions?
The Sage answers:
The best employers I ever had went out of their way to allow us to have lives. That
meant flexible work schedules to allow for kids, travel time, spousal schedules, etc. We stayed and worked
for less than we would have other places because we were treated as valued contributors to the team and we
gave more than was ever expected of us because we were grateful and knew what a gift their flexibility
was.

Jenny asks…
Why should I hire you as a facialist for Pete's Day Spa?
We have myself, Rockman and Casey on staff, but we can't keep up with demand!! As you
know, my Day Spa is world famous for its "Free Pearl Necklace with Every Facial" promotion. I'm only looking
for the best of the best.
And of course, we also offer pedicures, manicures, yada, yada, yada. But that would be
like going to a steakhouse for a salad...
Also, if you have any recommendations for this position, they will be carefully
considered...
Holly: I don't think you have the necessities to be a facialist for my staff, but I will keep your application on
file...
Jane: I'm sure you are, but I don't think you have what I'm looking for in a facialist. There are other positions
available, however...
Victoria: An assistant?
Hands-on? Do tell...
The Sage answers:
Umm, you shouldn't I'm unqualified, but I would make a great assistant. I can give
your staff a helping hand. I'm very hands-on. Also, I take a lot of pride in my work.
Give me a call if you got a good position for an assistant
Carol asks…
In what movie does Jennifer Aniston star, Where she expects a proposal but instead is
informed of a promotion?
There is this one scene in a movie. I think it has Jennifer Aniston in it. But she
goes to a spa and people walk on her back. And she thinks her boyfriend is going to propose to her. But in
actuality, he just got promoted in his job. I'm going nuts here.
The Sage answers:

Ruth asks…
Why are Groupons for products so much more rare than Groupons for services like spas,
food and yoga classes?
Is it an issue with margins or inventory management? Also, they tend to be online
promotions when they are for products.
The Sage answers:
Lower margin
The profit is much higher on services.

Your Questions Regarding Spa Promotions
I want your opinion on the two degrees
that I want to get. Tell me if they are a good combination??!!!?
I am currently a Business Marketing major and only have ten classes
left. I really want to start Criminal Justice with a concentration in Criminal Investigations. I am already 34
and don't want to waste any more time. I used to run a day spa and did promotions for major companies as well.
What type of career do you think I qualify for when all is finished and completed?? Any suggestions would be
great!!
As far as the business degree. I feel everyone can benefit from some type of business degree. Every one has to be
involved in some sort of business. Never hurts to know about it.
The Sage answers:
Business Marketing and Criminal Justice are a very unusual combination.
I can't think of what you could do that would combine them. I know that people with Criminal Justice and
accounting or finance are qualified for SEC and white collar crime type investigations. But I'm not sure what
marketing is going to do for you in criminal investigations.
Lisa asks…
DAy SPa, Nail Salons, what would have you try a new spa?
what promotions would bring you in to a nail salon or day spa, such as
disc, or fservices
The Sage answers:
A fish tank, false tree(s), and real plants for scenery. DO NOT forget
music. Put on a smile (or at least fake one). Start petty conversations. Maybe add some air fresheners
too.
Ruth asks…
Spa lady sent collection agencies after me...WHAT do i do?
Okay so i was at the mall 3 months ago or so and spa lady had a stand up
for promotions, a woman stopped me trying to get me to sit down and sign up. I explained to her i wasnt working
or have a job at the moment, im getting married in a few months and i wont have time to join the gym, the lady
told me to just fill out the form take it with me, and "WHENEVER" i want, if choose to join or not is fine with
them. I just wanted her to stop insisting so i filled the paper and took it, figured i wont join. I did NOT know
it was a sealed deal and it was a contract i couldnt get out of, i had joined and didnt know about it, she
scammed me. Now they sent collection agencies after me for $900 that i dont even have, and i wasnt even aware i
joined anything from what she told me i could come to them whenever if i decide to join!!! The agencies wont do
anything about it, what do i do to get out of this.
@ Clik strt mking $ in 10min FREE:
I didnt have interest in the spa, i was at the mall too shop, not to join anything, she was standing and stopping
people (it was a promotion for a sale) and she stopped me, all i did was listen to what she had to say, but i was
not interested.
The Sage answers:
Hello Hun it looks like you were taken for a ride for sure. You must
have signed something and given her a copy or she took a copy and gave you others either way I really can/should
only give you advise from the Collection Agency Point of view.
When any debt is sent to collections they by law have to mail you out a
"validation notice" within a certain amount of time. It pretty much is your first notice from their office. Now
you have 30days to dispute the charges which anyone can do and has the right to do. You can call and tell them
you dispute it and they may note it but you must also send them something in writing (Before the first 30 days
are up) listing and giving them your reasons as to why you feel you don't owe it and they have to look into
it.
Now this may still not help you as if you signed a contract and they
have a copy of it and you were over 18 when you signed it they will in the end consider your dispute invalid and
continue with collections however by law they now HAVE to at least mark the account disputed when or if they
report it on your credit with the credit bureau's. Not every creditor reports though believe it or
not.!
If it has already been 30 days - the validation period - they do not
have to except your dispute (your reason as to why you feel you do not owe it)as being a valid dispute since you
did not respond to the 30 day validation period notice
Hope this helps some and if you have any other questions involving
collections let me know! You can email me through my profile page.
Betty asks…
What can I do to increase business in this economy?
The opportunity has come up to purchase a salon that I have had my eye
on for a long time. I know this is not the best time to go into business, but it is a once in a lifetime type of
thing. I am looking for ways to get people in the door during these tough times. The salon is in a small
downtown area on main street. It is an upscale salon/spa and will be a Paul Mitchell focus salon. I am willing
to discount services, but I want to make sure the promotions seem valuable to the client but don't cheapen the
business.
The Sage answers:
"High end" is making it's way out of the American mainstream. We can't
afford it or the debt we've created trying to act like we can afford it. The hardest hit businesses are the ones
that offer a product or service that can be purchased at similar value elsewhere for less. I know that my days
of expensive haircuts are over, I'm drawing the line at $20 for a cut. Sure, I may not be getting the luxury of
a posh salon, but my cut still looks good.
I work in marketing, so I'll give you the advice I'm making others pay
for... Sell your prices. Make them reasonable and post them in store and on printed marketing pieces, offer a
good service, and build up a client base, then you can slowly raise them up. Good luck.

Your Questions About Spa Promotions
Does anyone know what is
included in Planet Beach's "Free Day at the Spa" promotion?
On the Planet Beach website, you can register for a guest pass and get a "Free Day at
the Spa", but it no where says what this includes. Does anyone know? If you went, what did you get and
what did you think of the experience?
I am in the process of changing my business name from "Pink Sugar
SpaPromotions" to something more professional yet still catchy and fun. I would like to
incorporate the words Marketing/Promotions/Promos and Spa/Salon/Beauty or any words that could
fit with the same general meaning.... For example there is a company called Spa Boom
Marketing.... I would love something like that, it gets the point across, is fun, catchy, and easy yet is not
childish or trendy like "Pink Sugar"
Any ideas???
The Sage
answers:
There are many catchy and fun name you can put for your spa saloon, but if u put the
name of your spa as with a positive meaning like "creative spa" ,"Excellent spa" and for fun u can put
"Belly-Jelly","Wow" etc
Thanks
Lisa asks…
What discounts or
promotions do mums want?
Whether it be vouchers for a family day out or a trip to the spa, your thoughts
would help me!
The Sage
answers:
Discounts or samples of environmentally friendly products. Everything you get in the
free sample packs is disposable nappies, disposable wipes, tiny pots or tiny tubes of this or that cream,
formula milk, processed baby food, etc. There are never discount vouchers off washable nappies or anything
else reusable.
Joseph asks…
How much would you tip
for mani/pedi deluxe spa treatment if they make the price cheaper for limited time?
If you get a mani-pedi deluxe spa treatment worth $80 on a normal basis
and they have a limited time promotion that allows it to only cost approximately $35, should the tip be based
on the normal price or the promotional price? What percentage tip would be best?
The Sage
answers:
I would tip it based on the promotional price because that is what they are offering
now. Since it is extremely cheaper i would give around a 20% tip like 8 dollars.
Ken asks…
Would you go to a day spa
that offered a free pearl necklace with each facial?
I'm considering opening up a day spa, and just seeing if this would be a good
promotion to run...
The Sage
answers:
Heck yeah I would

Your Questions About Spa Promotions
Michael asks…
Groupon Promotions for a Medical Spa?
What type of deals would you be interested in on Groupon from a Medical
Spa? Here is the website for the company so you can see the types of services they offer.
www.smartskinmedspa.com
I think as long as the vendor offering the service has the means to handle all the new business then the scheduling
should not be an issue, that being said what do you think you would be interested in as an offer?
The Sage answers:
I agree with the other response, i WILL NEVER BUY A GROUPON AGAIN
EITHER! I bought one for a restaurant deal and by the time I was ready to use it, I went to the restaurant and
it was nothing like what Groupon advertised, pictures, descriptions...my friend also had a similar
issue.
The best daily deal website is Dealgrind.com. They have deals to very
good quality businesses, they have a rep 7 days a week to answer questions, and their prices are unbeatable. So
far i bought a hair deal, 1hr massage for ($18!!!!), boat cruise, 3 laser treatments at a medspa for $99, and
yesterday, just got 5 yoga classes for $29!! True Story :) hope this helps. (to other comment, sorry about that
experience I would be pretty upset too)
Lizzie asks…
What do you think about the promotion facial , spa, slimming packages is

you and the customer.
George asks…
A good spa resort to go with your mother?
I would like to take my mother out to a spa, for a night. I live in
southern california, does anyone know of any good spa resorts to go to? If you know of any great promotions,
even better.
Thank you
The Sage answers:
The best spas that are easy to get to from SoCal.
Canyon Ranch = Tucson
Marival = Tucson
Ojai Valley Inn & Spa = Ojai
Soleage = Napa
These are high end places and their prices reflect it.
If you want something a big more affordable, you can do Canyon Ranch at
the Palazzo in Vegas or Montage in Dana Point.
Have a great time!!
Mary asks…
Where can I find discounts, coupons or promotions for LA

Thanks!

Spa treatments-What would make you come in to see me?
I have started working in a spa as an esthetician who provides facials,
all types of waxes, makeup applications, stress relieving body treatments, and treatments for different skin
issues. I am trying to build up a clientele, and I was wondering if anyone could think of any ways to spark new
clients' interests. What types of advertising or promotions or services would make you want to come in without
having an appointment first?
The Sage answers:
I am a current manager of a spa, so my advice to you would be to buy
some notecards and write down information about you clients. Say for example someone named Ashley Smithcomes to
see you and she tells you she has two kids and is going on a trip to Florida. WRITE THIS DOWN. This way the next
time she comes in you can say "How was your trip to Florida?" "How are your kids?" It is very personal and
working with people in waxing and facials, etc is a very personal business. This shows your client that you care
to remember them. Just dont let them know that you have a card reminding you of all the stuff they tell you.
They will then tell their friends about you and before you know it, you will be receiving requests left and
right!! Good Luck. Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

Spa promotions are regularly advertised by many different companies to entice the general public into parting
with their hard earned cash. It's important to read between the lined before you buy though in order to avoid
disappointment. Usually there will be a two pronged offer as shown on the video below with the Salon and Spa
Promotion from salonandspapromotions.com.
In this particular case, they are offering gift
certificates for less programs which are discounted at 40% off the usual price. On the face of it, this
sounds like a truly great offer but the only way to really know is to check out what you can actually
receive with your certificates and then compare it to another similar firm. Better yet, why not ring up
other companies in the area and see if they will beat the offer. Nothing ventured nothing
gained.
Spa promotions come in many diffrerent ways, gift
certificates being one but the good news for consumers is that since the global meltdown, these luxury
services are indeed suffering and so finding cheap deals should not be too hard. Happy
hunting.
