Bad Hot Tub Deal–What are My Rights?
Bought a
used spa for 4,000 at what we thought was a reputable dealer. It gets delivered and
two months later it is still leaking like a sieve. I was told that it was 2 yrs old, the brain
has a 2007 date on it. Let’s see that equals 7 yrs. I was told it was sound. The repair men
came out 3 times already and the leaks are still present. As far as we’re concerned, we appear
to be in installation mode since it’s not yet repaired to be ‘sound.’ They upgraded our
warranty from 2 yrs to 5 yrs to make ammends but they cannot locate and fix the leaks, after 3
visits.
We asked for our money back this
morning. Now they say I bought a used spa and a used spa is exactly that….used. AS IS. Yet they
told me it was SOUND on sales day. Now doesnt that sound like misrepresentation to steal our
money during this awful recession? To be sound, doesnt a hot tub have to hold its
water? Duh.
Ok ozonator appears to be not working but with a 5 yr warranty I can get that fixed or replaced but enough is enough!
State: New Jersey.
They refused to give us our cash back. They are now trying to upsell us into a new 6,000 model. I am afraid to give them more money.
Can I get a
refund?

How can you find out if a married man is leading a double life?
A few years
ago, I was looking through a catalog and decided to order Victorias Secret. When I was ready to
give my method of payment the lady on the phone asked if I wanted the stuff sent to (my
husband’s name) p.o. box. I asked my husband right then and there if he wanted it sent to his
p.o. box. He denied having one. There is only one last name like ours in our city. In the
state, only his two brothers have the same last name. I called a major real estate company in
our city about a home I saw for sale. The agent said is that
the home I showed you last week? In shock, I said I wasn’t sure because we looked at several
with different agents (to get more information). Then he said I was the one who showed you the
home on Redbud Lane and asked if I was the one that was with him. Well….when I asked my husband
about it he said he called a number in a homes magazine and it was just a sales tactic. I let
it go. Then on christmas morning, my husband had just gotten a
new cell phone and whoever had the new number called
Private name/private number so the wrong person wouldn’t get the call. He was in the
shower and I asked him to give me the password and he did, but I heard part of a icky
sweet woman wishing him merry christmas…when he took the phone to finish listening. I
told him let me hear it again. Guess what, he accidently deleted the message trying to
replay it. (?) I started noticing my name was no longer on the bills and utilities coming
to the home when I tried to make a payment on some accts. Then today, I call a place that
sells hot tubs and he says I
showed you one about 30 ago didn’t I. (only last name in city) I said no, asked
husband–he denied it. He depleted the equity in all three vehicles, the home we were in
10 years through refinancing (didn’t know we got checks), his retirement acct, borrowed
$58,000 from his boss and didn’t tell me until I found stubs, opened a checking in his
name only (said to pay bills acct.) What is going on?
I blew up and tried to leave–he said he would rather die than get
a divorce from me. He keeps wanting to take me on vacations out of the country — went to Mexico
(I went but didn’t want to). That was a couple years ago and now he wants to go to Puerto Rico?
I feel kind of scared. He doesn’t seem the type, but our of the blue our insurance company
called to come take blood for the policy, I told
them I was a SAHM so why is there such a large policy on me? I told them no, that was before
trip to Mexico. Everyone likes my husband and he seems to want to go out of his way
for all of us, but…
Well, I guess I am stupid then because all of it is 100% true.

We got a letter from the IRS that said they audited our 2005
taxes and the woman said he made 193,000 in the 2005. I said he never made that much and I read
my 1040 to her and that accounted for the 58,000 he didn’t
file taxes on. Yes, I guess I am a fool in denial.
I swear to God above this is NOT a lie. I am very concerned about
who I could be married to and that is why the long long question. This is
serious.

Do I want an ozonator for my hot tub?
I am buying a hot tub. All my friends recommend an ozonoator – say it really helps with stabilizing the chemicals. The hot tubs sales stores that we’ve been to consistently say we really don’t need them. Is this a sales technique (tell the customer a truth, so they’ll buy the hot tub from you)? Is this just a way to make more money off of the chemicals? Or is this the truth – you really don’t need an ozonator. I’ve heard that the chemical difference is 1 tsp vs. 1/2 tsp w/an ozonator.

Ozonator is much healthier chlorine and bromine are not good for you anyway. Just better than a bacterial infection

Hot Tub sales really lucrative or pie in the sky ?
anyone out there ever sold hot tubs for a living ? Is 60K per year an attainable number or is it just a pie in the sky gig ? Saw an ad for this type of job and I’m guessing your base is like 20K and good luck on selling 40K worth of tubs….or is this for real ? anyone have any experience here ?

We sold two major brands of tubs that are in the top ten. I paid my sales people $10 an hour, they also made 5% of all sales above 5k, 2.5% from $2500-$5000. In an average week each person would sell one pool table with accessories avg. $4500. (making $112.50) and three Hot Tubs averaging $8600 (making $430 per sale for a total of $1290). We were not greedy when it came to our mark ups therefore we sold more tubs in the long run making more money then our competition. I had a very sharp english speaking Japanese born lady that went after the building market and she made slightly over 110k in one year. The question if the dealer is good/flexible and has good products.

What are the best chemicals to use in a hot tub?
We just got a hot tub at a garage sale and need to know what kinds of chemicals we need for it.

First you need to balance your water.
PH level of 7.2-7.5 use sodium carbonate to increase it and sodium bisulfate to decrease
it. (This also decreases alkalinity)
the Alkalinity level needs to be between 80-120ppm. Use Sodium Bicarbonate(Baking soda) to
raise it.
The hardness level needs to be at least 250ppm to 400ppm. Calcium Chloride is used to
increase it.
Bromine unlike Chlorine is stable to 116 degrees. Your tub will not go past 104 legally. If it does have a tech repair it. When you look at your Bromine Tablets they will be almost completely Bromine. The concentrate will be about 28% Bromine with the rest being a form of Chlorine. (The one poster knows not what he is talking about when mixing the two.) I like to use a non-chlorine shock as my oxidizer since I hate chlorine and bromine. It is called Potassium Monopersulfate. I will keep my Bromine very low at about 1ppm and use this to shock. I do have a gas plasma Ozonator that also does my sanitizing. I recommend the above to my 3 thousand customers since it is the cheapest way to go.

Hot tub desirable in home sale??
My husband and I have a chance to get a really nice hot tub for free. We are selling our home asap and we are putting the final touches on landscape to finish the backyard and are wondering if getting the hot tub would be worth it? Would a potential buyer think a hot tub was desirable? If we get it, it will take a bit of work on our part to fit it into the landscape of the yard so I am just wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth it in the end when our house goes on the market. Thanks for your opinions!! Oh, and just in case you are wondering…it IS a nice hot tub. Clean and hardly used by the previous owners. It wouldn’t be like putting a junker in the yard.

I am thinking of getting a free hot tub. I mean I see them all the time. I see hot tubs for sale for thousands of dollars and I am thinking why not be one of theose people who get something for almost nothing…. but there is always a catch right? So I am thinking before I get one I will find out what else I need, and if its something I can get for cheap or is it gonna cost me an arm and a leg. I mean I know I will need chemicals, but beyond that. If I get just the shell for free, I figure I will need to build a box to hold it, sometimes I see them with it for free though, but a box and a hot tub for free… then what.

Hi…the above guy is correct for the most part. You best bet is to buy a new Balboa VS retrofit spa pack that will come with the electronic controls, a new heater and all the controls with a three year warranty to boot. Next you might need to buy some new pumps that can easily run $325-$450. Labor will run around $65 an hour. Look on the bright side for basically you can $1500 you can get yourself a new hot tub on the inside.
