There are a number of ways you could install your hot tub or spa.
One of the popular methods is to actually set it into the ground so that you can walk into the hot, relaxing
bubbling water. Read on for further details.
Your Questions About Inground Hot Tubs
Nancy asks…
looking for a swimming pool and hot tub design!!?
i saw on mtv cribs a inground pool with a hot tub connected under a cave with a
waterfall. i cant remeber whose house it was and i loved the design and need help finding it.
The Sage answers:
Just contact your local concrete or gunite pool builder. We must have done a dozen of
those features in pools with the caves having their own bar, sound system, water curtain and the like as well
as elevated spas spilling into or over the cave. Anyone that does concrete or gunite pools can do it. Why
copy someone elses design when you can do whatever floats your boat and is unique to your yard
only?

Ideas for a 17 year old males pool party?
My boyfriends pool party is in a few days and we need some ideas of fun stuff to do at
his pool party.
It's going to be at his house and he has an inground pool and a hot tub and we invited guys and girls.
Most of the people we invited aren't single therefore games like spin the bottle and such wouldn't be
appropriate.
We just need some ideas of games and such to keep the party going and fun.
Myself and a few of his friends are vegetarians lol.
Like does anyone know fun pool games other then marco polo?
The Sage answers:
Loud fun music
lots of food, pizza, chips, dips, candy
Maybe a movie for after you go swimming
maybe you can grill some cheesburgers and hotdogs thats always fun
Robert asks…
i'm moving and i've lived in the same house for ever?
what do i to forget about my old house.i mean my new house is great it has a hot tub
and inground pool but i'll miss this house we're moving in 2 days
The Sage answers:
In time you will make new memories in your new house and though you won't forget your
old house you will grow to love it.
To help with the transition take digital pictures of your old house and then collect
snapshots from things your family did or great memories you have from your old house. Make a scrapbook or
power point slide show using the photographs. Then you will have the memories at your fingertips.
It is all of the emotional experiences that happen in a home that create the
attachment to it, not the walls and floors, windows or doors.
Embrace the possibilities in front of you to create so many new experiences in your
next house...and the next and the next.

James asks…
Potty training parents of a kid who cries wolf....Do you still take them in there
every time?
My house has a step down bathroom and a cement tile floor, so it can be dangerous when
my son opens the door and has that huge step down, so I have to go with him to the bathroom. He loves it in
there. He loves the decorations, he loves brushing his teeth, he loves it all. Taking baths, trying to get
the TP and our tub is the kind that is floor level, so you can just step down into it and sort of loos like
an inground hot tub, so its another danger. So every 15 minutes or so, he will tell me he needs to go pee
pee. I get him in there, and he will say "I bath" or "teeth". I love that he wants to brush his teeth, but
not 10xs a day. He doesn't need to pee, but I have been taking him in there anyways, and he just hops off the
toilet. But then there are the times of course that he does have to pee, and it is hard for me to distinguish
when he is pulling my leg. Should I keep doing as I am, and keep taking him in there every single time he
tells me he needs to pee? Or should I tell him no?
I tried the potty chair, and its a no go....He will only use the toilet insert. So I guess I will just keep
spending half the day in the bathroom, lol.
That is a good idea about the toothbrush to have all day, and my husband actually tried that, and what is the first
thing my son did? Tripped with it and almost choked. When I got home my hubs told me about it and I had a freak
out, so toothbrushes stay in the bathroom, lol.

Inground Pool and Hot Tub?
How much does it cost to put in an average size in-ground swimming pool
and hot tub? We will need to have the yard dug up of course, and I dont want tiles, but the cement finish. Any
estimates?
The Sage answers:
We just had our pool put in and for the basic style, no bells and
whistles, it came to just over $15K. The pool itself was $12K and then if you wanted a cement patio (instead of
gravel) it was another $3K or so. This didn't include the $1K for the electrician to hook the whole thing
up.
I wouldn't recommend an in ground hot tub. Spend $6-$8K on an above
ground and just set in on a cement slab.
Betty asks…
Hot tub drained on its own?
ok so last night i used an inground hot tub that has a PDA system ( hand
held thing that turns everything on and off) any way the tub drained does anyone know how to refill it and how
to keep this from happening again? , by the way it is a salt water pool and all that i turned on last night
where the lights and the spa heat
The Sage answers:
I'm guessing this a pool and spa combo? If so, and it drained very quick
after you turned on the spa, then you have a problem with the valve actuator on the return side. If it drained
slowly then you may have a bad check valve on the spa by pass. To refill it just turn the system back to pool
and run the filter and it will fill back up. If it is a "spa only", no pool. You have a bigger problem. First
refill with a garden hose, then turn on the pump and look for leaks at the equipment. Let me know which of these
scenarios is closest to what happened and I will be able to assist you further.
Sandy asks…
where can i find just a hot tub or spa shell to install inground
myself?
The Sage answers:
I'd put an ad in the classifides
You will want to remember to insulate it from the ground when you
install it. It would be expensive to continuously heat the 50 degree ground!
You could always just buy some fiberglass and make your own too. Here is
my favorite place to buy fiberglass-- http://www.uscomposites.com/
Good luck
George asks…
Inground pool/spa pump and return settings?
We just moved into a house with and inground pool and hot tub with water
fall into the pool. There are 4 ways to set it the pool return spa return thing and I can have both open or one
closed at a time and the skimmer and spa suction, same thing. What is day to day setting, and what should they
be for using the hot tub?
The Sage answers:
Your have the following pipes to either open or close: Pool suction, spa
suction, pool return, spa return. In normal operation you would draw water from the pool (open pool suction and
close spa suction lines), and return water to both (pool return line fully open, spa return line full or
partially open). This allows filtered water to return to both bodies of water and allow for the "waterfall"
feature while preventing draining the spa. Some pools have a return line automatically designated for going to
the spa when in "pool mode" so you can shut your spa line completely off. Try it and see if water still flows to
the spa. If not, open up the valve to your preference. Other pools have a separate valve for spa overflow.
When using the spa open up spa suction and return and turn off pool suction and return. On some pools there are
individual valves for each line, some have 3-way valves so that one valve can open or close either pool or spa
suction or return lines.

Can I build my own in-ground hot tub?
My husband is a pretty handy guy and we have a very tight budget. He doesn't like the
above ground portable hot tubs, and I'm wondering if it would be possible for us to build our own in-ground
hot tub? I live in Houston, TX, where the ground moves quite a bit. Gunite pools are popular here. Would this
be a manageable thing for us? Any tips/suggestions? Any idea on the cost?
The Sage answers:
Wow, you have great faith in husband! You'll need: the tub or water holding vessel,
the pump, the heater, the filter, the timer, perhaps an ozonator to help with the cleaning and any jets you
want to install. Why not just get in inground spa?

Hot tub date place in houston?
WOuld like to take my date
to a hot tub. Is there any such place in houston
The Sage answers:
Are you looking for one with a restaurant? This is the dining out section.
Michael asks…
Where in Houston can the wife and I get away for the day?
We have small children, so spending the nite out somewhere is not possible. We would
like to go someplace where we could be... umm... alone for the day. A room with a hot tub would be ideal. Any
suggestions?
The Sage answers:
Tons of hotels around the city. Check hotels.com for good deals.
Ken asks…
Explain the difference to me in a 2 person whirlpool bath and 2 person hot
tub?
I am looking for a hotel in the Houston area for my husband and I to get away for a
night. I am wanting a room that has a 2 person "tub" in the room. One reasonable hotel has a couple of rooms
that I am confused about. One says a 2 person whirlpool-in bath and the other says it has a 2 person hot tub.
Is it meaning that the whirlpool bath is in the bath room and the hot tub is in the room? I am thinking that
is what it is meaning. Someone please help me with this.
Also, if you know of a reasonably price (less that $130) that has a nice in-room hot
tub in north Houston or Humble, let me know!
Last thing, if you know of anything we could see while we're in Houston, let me know
that too! We get tired of shopping!
Thanks to all who reply!!!
The Sage answers:
I think that technically, a "whirlpool bath" is a bathtub with jets that you would
have in your bathroom and fill with the faucet like a normal bathtub(you can just turn on the jets with a
button). A "hot tub" is what you typically see outside next to the pool or inside a spa. However, I think
that most people use these terms interchangeably. SO, if a hotel room mentions a "whirl pool" or "hot tub" in
the room...they typically mean "whirl pool" and it will be in the bathroom.
However, it would be cool to have a hot tub by the bed! I bet there are some places
like that in Vegas! :)
Enjoy your trip to Houston. The arboretum there is nice...plus they have a great
ballet and the Alley Theater is wonderful.
Hope this helps(and was clear!). Happy Travels.

Your Questions About Inground Hot Tubs
Custom Inground Hot Tubs??
Hey.
I'm interested in getting a custom inground hot tub (spa) for my
backyard. However, all I can find is pre-made tubs that you install in the ground. That is not what I'm looking
for. I would like a large rock formation style spa that would be custom built in the ground.
Please can some lead me in the right direction to finding what I
mentioned above??
This is kinda of what I'm looking to get:
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z254/rfomkillclan/westcoast-SpaOnly.jpg
Thanks
The Sage answers:
Thats going to be a wonderful nice spa once built. That spa I would
build for around 20-25k. Something you need to consider. A shotcrete/gunite spa will not be for therapy since
you will not have optimal jet configuration for what everyone needs in time. Also the expense when the jets go
bad and the plumbing starts leaking is what makes me grin with love knowing how much it will be to repair in a
few years. That 20k spa will cost you another 10k within 8 years on average so be prepared. With all of that
said, wh ever will build it will say differently since they are going to want to build it. Just know you will
one day be footing a huge bill that might even cost more then your original spa. So now you need ot just go find
whoever builds high end pools in your area or state. Here in Wilmington I just saw a 180k pool/spa built that
needs a 80k repair. I found 91 bad things on it and it is brand new and leaking like crazy. Wouldn't you love to
have built that one as a homeowner. At the very least make sure they have 2-5 mil insurance so you can sue them
for the screw up afterwards.
Carol asks…
Where can we get a VERY nice looking inground patio/hot tub
built?
We're looking to have a very extravagent looking inground hottub
built/added, with nice stone patio, with maybe a little waterfall etc. but my question is... Where would we look
to find someone that could build this? We live just north of Indianapolis, IN. Thanks!
The Sage answers:
Start by going to www.apsp.org and look to see if the there are any
certified pool builders there. The better builders care about certifications and this is a good place to look.
Wish I still lived in Carmel, I would bid/build it.

Daniel asks…
Can shower gel or shampoo damage a hot tub?
Until I can get my hot water heater replaced, I have been enjoying my
morning bath in my inground hot tub. Will the bath gel and shampoo cause any damage to the hot tub?
The Sage answers:
It probably will "not" hurt the working of the hot tub in anyway. The
pump motor will not be effected in any way, neither will the pump. It just pumps the water. You may have to
change the water soon. It could be pretty nasty!!!
John asks…
how do i install an inground fiberglass hot tub?
The Sage answers:
Is this a self contained tub or are the filter, heater and pump loose
and will have to be connected with piping? I'm not up to date of current systems but the one we had came in
pieces and had to be assembled. Digging the hole was the easy part.

Meant for those who can pay for it, inground hot tubs can offer the best in extravagance. They are also a
pleasurable way to keep relaxed after a stressful day. You can also prepare fun hot tub celebrations and
get-togethers for your close friends and family. Before you consider installing a hot tub, you must be aware of
inground charges and linked costs. In addition to this, remember that an in ground spa makes sense only if you own a
large house. There's no use cutting all the outdoor space to have a one foot tub
The benefits of an inground hot tub is without doubt also. When the soaking state of
mind strikes you, merely ease yourself effortlessly and start soaking away the anxiety and worries of the
day. You will not have to worry about hoisting yourself up to enjoy the pleasure of peeling away the weekly
accrued tension.
Those that prefer understated beauty will discover the attraction of the inground
variety too much to fight. You won't really feel any sense of patio clutter with an attractive hot tub of
this style. The symmetry of your landscaping components will remain undisturbed and
uninterrupted.
Although there is some discussion as to exactly how much a hot tub can enhance the
property value of a given home, the majority of Real estate agents are in agreement that by and large a
professionally completed inground hot tub is a really attractive selling point. The visually inviting
experience that a potential buyer can experience, at times, can be palpable. One more thing to keep in mind
is that, in spite of their best intentions, when home owners market their own homes they seldom take their
portable, above ground hot tubs with them. It is then that they may be more of a hindrance than a
benefit.
No-one is actually recommending that a possible future property sale should be a
primary aspect in your decision making process, but it is reassuring to know that after getting many years of
soaking satisfaction, the inground hot tub investment may well help usher you into the subsequent phase of
your life.
Varieties of Inground Hot Tubs
Cement:
Toughness is 1 of our principal issues when we purchase a product. The exact same
thing is applicable whenever we are selecting a permanent hot tub. A resilient material may be costly, but it
can in fact save you money in the long term. For home owners who are concerned of longevity of their hot tub,
then the best alternative is to go for the same material that regular swimming pools are made of: concrete,
particularly gunite. With proven toughness, concrete tubs would surely endure the elements and last for a
lengthy period.
Fiberglass:
Since it's creation in 1938 by Russell Games Slayter, fiberglass has become one of the
top construction materials. Made from very durable fine fibers of glass, fibreglass is 1 of the most
resilient non-metallic materials known to man. Fibreglass tubs are increasingly becoming popular for house
owners who are searching for an affordable alternative to concrete ones. Arguably, fiberglass hot tubs are
significantly cheaper than concrete ones. However, inground tubs made of fiberglass may not have the same
features as the concrete variety. As an example, fiberglass tubs do not have the standard step-type seats and
only possess about four jets.
Vinyl:
The price is 1 of the top priorities of home owners. Unnecessary expenditure must be
avoided as much as possible. Would it be logical if you max out your charge card simply to obtain a concrete
or fiberglass tub? Obviously, it's not really a rational option. Why would an individual do that when you can
settle for an inground one made of vinyl fabric? A tested substance when it comes to sturdiness and combating
the elements, vinyl is excellent for this application. It will last for quite some time if you take suitable
care of it. However, do not assume that it will last as long as concrete inground hot tubs
will.
The video below shows a 9ft 6" x 7ft 6" Nespa hot tub being delivered on a trailer.
Here we see exactly how it looks when inserted into the ground with pictures from start to finish showing the
builders actually installing it starting with the diggingLooks like hard work to me.
