It makes sense to purchase used hot tubs since a new hot tub
often costs $5,000 and sometimes even more. Purchasing used
spas has its difficulties in that many are permanent
installations. When purchasing a used spa, make sure to look
for insulation cracks as well as any evidence of leaks or
damage.
Buyers should consider how the hot tub can be moved to your
home from the location where you made the purchase. Buyers need
to prepare the site for the equipment and as to how to
undertake setup of the equipment. After considering the setup,
repair expenses should be added to the amount estimated that
you will pay for the equipment.
Hot tubs that have been used for awhile usually need
cleaning and to be decontaminated because of health risks. Even
though a spa looks like it has a clean surface, there may be
threats hidden in plumbing such as fungus, viruses, mold, and
bacteria. There can be body oils coating the pipes in addition
to other organic wastes from previous users contaminating spa
plumbing. The systems can be flushed out with many different
products.
Does the installation room have sufficient electrical wiring
for this hookup to draw extra electricity? When water is
around, it is very dangerous doing any repairs or electrical
work. A qualified electrician should do any repairs or wiring.
All electrical power should be off and disconnected before any
inspections and repairs are attempted.
Spas that have not been run for some time or have been
stored empty may have condensation that causes corrosion being
formed on components that are electrical so there are bad
connections. The shafts of motor pumps that have not been used
can rust and lock up. There can still be water in the plumbing
of drained spas that are stored. If the spa is stored in a very
cold temperature, the water can freeze and expand, causing
cracks and fractures to the plumbing system.
Spas stored in heat (such as the sun) can have damages with
visible blistering seen. The damages are made worse when the
hot tub has no water in it. Perform your inspection on a hot
tub filled with water and run twenty-four hours with the
temperature set to maximum. You will then be able to spot any
leaks and system problems.
Purchase a spa by looking in your local newspaper classified
section. Many people are moving and need to sell their
equipment. Auction sites online usually are not a good place to
look because any shipping costs would be impractical and you
would be buying the hot tub without seeing or inspecting
it.
Decide on how much money you will spend by factoring in spa
design styles, the age of a spa, any extra features and the
general condition. When purchasing from a dealer, you may find
used hot tubs with a warranty because someone purchased it
using financing and was unable to make the payments.
