You will find that even with regular maintenance and servicing,
eventually some of your hot tub parts will need replacing. Like all mechanical devices, they will wear out at
some stage but the more you look after them, the longer they'll last.
Your Questions About Hot Tub Heaters Parts
No power going to my hot
tub?
My hottub just had all new
parts put in motor, filter, heater, and thermostat. It was working great and staying consistent at
101 degrees. Two days ago, I was about to get in and the water was only 68 degrees! The filter and jets worked
fine. I went out to see what was going on and i flipped the switch for the reset button on the heater. The next
day, the water was at 78 degrees so i know the heater did kick on. However, today when i checked on it, it was
83 degrees but the water was just sitting still. The filtration didnt come on all day or night. Anyone have any
ideas on why this is happening? I checked the GFI and it shows that its turned on. I was also wondering if its
safe for me to turn off the power at the GFI and turn it back on again. Any help would be
appreciated...
The Sage answers:
Don't use the gfi for a switch it will screw it up sooner than you
think. Check for a loose screw connection after turning it off inside of course.
Thomas asks…
Hot tub C/B Trips instantly?
I have a 5 or 6 year old
hot springs hottub. About a week ago I bought it from a gentleman that said
his dog chewed off the cord and the tub hasn't been on for 2 years. when I pulled the electrical box
the heater control panel was burnt up so I ordered a new one and installed it. the
hottub is running on a 115v 20 amp ground fault circuit breaker. Every time I flip the c/b
it trips instantly. I went through and one by one disconnected the piece parts (pump, heater, filter,
ect...) until they were all disconnected. When this didn’t narrow down the problem I I disconnected the the black
jumper wire that goes from the heater circuit panel to the main control circuit panel and flipped the c/b and it
stayed on. as soon as I hooked the black wire back up it popped again. I have replaced the ground fault circuit
breaker hoping that I just got a bad c/b but that was not the case. Any help you can give me would be very much
appreciated.
The Sage answers:
Many hottubs that I have wired require a larger breaker that that. I'm
glad you have it on a ground fault breaker. Check the power lable to see what voltage and amps it uses. Be sure
to have a ground rod at the hottub as well, grounded straight to the unit, with the ground wire coming from the
breaker box. It worries me a little that your breaker trips instantly, If your heater is failing to ground, even
5 milli amps should trip a ground fault device. If you need to correct your power supply to the hottub and the
new breaker, if needed, still trips then you should check the wiring and components, or have it checked for a
ground fault. No one wants to get electrocuted! Good luck, be safe.

How do i change 221v to 110v?
OK all another question may seem redundant but i'd like to ask if i
change a 220v to 110v on a hottub will it make it not run as well which i would think
because of the heater and exc parts or will it work ? So question how to do 221v to 110v

My answer is given for information purposes only. I accept no liabililty
for the answers and will not guarantee their accuracy. Any work is yours and yours alone.
I don't want to sound condescending, but since you are asking these
questions, it suggests that your electrical knowledge is somewhat limited.
I cannot say it any other way: you need to be EXTREMELY careful about
electrical wiring and water systems.
It can be a lethal combination if you don't know what is involved and
make a mistake. In addition, there are serious grounding, insulation and GFCI requirements that need to be
considered. To explain the theory and requirements is far beyond the scope of Yahoo answers.
I strongly suggest that you consult with a licensed electrician and give
him or her the job. They would have the expertise and more importantly, they would be liable for any
problems.
To do this yourself with limited knowledge is not only foolhardy, but
highly dangerous - you are taking risks with possible fatal outcomes.
Here is my 'technical answer'.
Rewiring probably won't work for several reasons:
1. The heating element is designed to output a given amount of watts of
heat at 220 V -- when you halve the voltage, it will only give 1/2 the wattage / heat. Your hot tub will take at
least twice as long to heat, if at all. (The heating element has a fixed resistance, and is designed for 220
V.)
2. The pump might be designed for 220 V, to simplify the hot tub's
wiring. You would need to check the pump's input voltage requirement and probably replace it, if it cannot be
rewired to 110 V (some can, others cannot.) If the pump is designed for 110 V, then you would not need to do
anything.
3. If the controls are electronic, they probably have a 110 V main
circuit.
Again, I really suggest you don't do this yourself. You wouldn't do open
heart surgery on yourself to save a few bucks. Hire an electrician to do it right, and be safe.
David asks…
How do I fix low flow on hot side of tub?
I suspect that after water heater replacement by contractor, that
something may have blocked the line somewhere. When the contractor told me to turn on the hot water,
this is the valve that I turned on first. I did not relate this problem at first to the water heater
replacement. This is a delta single lever valve. I took it apart and there was some white particles on the ball
part of the valve. I cleaned it off and turned the water on with the valve removed to try to flush it out, but
it didn't help much. How can I clear out the line? with the valve out and the water flowing free, you can see
the difference between the hot and cold. the cold side has high pressure, but the hot is
definantly lower flow, so I don't think the valve is the cause! No help from the contractor!
Thanks to all for helping
Yes, the hot at the 1 tub is the only one restricted , all other tubs and sinks are fine. I
tried to push a wire back into the pipe in hope of clearing the obstruction, but it didn't help!
It is similar to this model, but I think the valve is ok! I am I wrong about this?

The Sage answers:
Is the low pressure from one faucet only or from all faucets in the
house? If it is just one, I would shut off the water to that faucet, disconnect the hot line from the faucet and
flush it out. By turning the water on, you can determine if you have good pressure. If the water comes out with
good pressure, you know the problem is in the tap set. If this is the case, remove the tap set from the sink,
open the taps up. Try blowing air with your mouth into the cold and hot inlet. Does it feel like the hot is more
restricted? That will also give you an indication that the problem is in the tap. You can then pour CLR inside
the openings afterwards. Any minerals will get dissolved as the CLR goes through. You can also put the tap set
inside a large bowl with the taps open inside CLR and let it soak in. Rinse it off in water really well and try
blowing inside of it again. Is there a difference? If yes, reinstall it.If not, it may require a disasembly of
the valves and seals.
Hope it helps.
Steven asks…
Can rust be extracted from a fluid (water) by using
magnets?
In my hottub, I am assuming I have a part that has
lost it's protective coating (probably a component of the pump). After a week or so after changing the water,
the water turns reddish to black.
It's not the heater, all the plumbing is PVC and I can't get to the pump since it is bolted to the under side. I am
contemplating dropping a couple of magnets in the filter basket and seeing if it clears the water...
Probably will but am curious as to if anyone else has experienced this.

What are the parts needed to install a hot tub?
I just bought a used
hot tub and I am not positive it came with all the parts but I have no idea what a hot tub requires. I am going
to call a electrician to install the hot tub but I would like to have some idea of what I am doing before I call
an electrician. I know you need some type of heater, what type are you suppose to get? Is the heater suppose to
be attached to your house? Are there extra parts you need for the heater?…any information would be great! I am a
clueless hot tub owner.
The Sage
answers:
Look for mfg. Name,
model type write down all info you can find. Mfg.sometimes will email an owners manual with tips to take care of
it, make sure you have room in the box to add a 240 volt heater w/50 amp.breaker ck electric codes, most need a
manual shutoff within 15 ft of the tub. The equipment pack with most of the plumbing parts and topside controls
is the best way to go,the starting price is $1000. If all you need is a heater and $1500. For the equip. Pack.
120 volt is a joke for a tub. Get 2 sets of filters clean often. Good luck you’ll need
it.
