Your Questions About Balboa Hot Tubs
How do i find the series of my balboa instrument hot tub?look for the manual
online.?
The Sage answers:
Real easy. Look on top of the pack and there will be the manufactures number. Starting
with a 5 and will be 5 digits long before a letter may come up.
Mandy asks…
Hot tub jets 1 button shuts off circ pump (balboa 55099 circuit board)?
Replaced hot tub circuit board (balboa 55098 w/ 55099--due to discontinuation of the
55098) & now Jets 1 button shuts off circ pump and causes heater to overheat. Jets 1 button also won't
turn jets on. Also blower button "clicks" at circuit board, but doesn't appear to do anything. Any help would
be appreciated!
The Sage answers:
The circuit baord does not work right powering the motor to pump the jets or it is
defective.
Without the water flow to take off the excess heat of the heater it gets to hot. And
it has a thermal overload, like a fusable link that melts shutting off the electrical power to it. It takes
time for the link to cool down for the electrical power to flow and heat again.
Or the pump impeller is broken. The impeller is a plastic vane the spins and forces
the water to flow.
A electrical multimeter would be the best way to test the unit with power and with
out. This will help to locate what the problem is.

James asks…
My hot tub won't heat and the control panel says sensor sync what do I do?
I have a master spa and it is a Balboa heating element. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks.
The Sage answers:
There are two temp sensors on each end of your heater assembly. One is reading one
thing while the other is not. The odds are your going to have to close off the water valves leading to the
heater and then open one end of the heater to let the water drain out. Next remove the temp sensors and
repace them. One is bad most likely.
Charles asks…
Why won't my hot tub heat?
My hot tub has some water on the floor around it and the water in the hot tub is cold.
Its telling me its 110 degrees! Everything else seems to be operating correctly. Any ideas on how to fix
myself before I call a technician out? I've looked at the heater, Balboa, and it looks good. My hot tub is a
Marque Epic and its about 5 years old and I do have well water.
The Sage answers:
The high limit switch is out, or the main fuse is, if its 110 volt you may get only 1
degree temp change every hr, 220 gets about 4 or 5 every hr

Your Questions About Balboa Hot Tubs
how do i turn off my balboa hot tub jet?
I have a used balboa hot tub and no manual. I can turn on and off one of
the jets, the other jets turn on and just keep spraying and I can't turn them off. Display has hot cold buttons,
mode button (allows cycling between ecn std slp), and jets 1 and jets 2 buttons. Please help.
The Sage answers:
First off balboa makes the parts mainly the boards and topside controls
it doesnt make tubs. Basically most hot tubs are either manufactured with one of the two main companies balboa
parts or gecko parts.
As for your problem you can call the balboa service line and read them
the information on the control box where all the wires go into. This is where the brain of your hot tub is and
it usually contains all the information you need for them to help you with your problem.
Possible reasons for this are
1.) Your button for your controller has crapped out or moisture has
gotten into the controller and causes the button to short out as it were giving the board the wrong signal.
Older the tub the more likely it is the controller is toast.
2.) Your motherboard has developed a glitch or defective relay switch
either thru wear and tear thru out the years or a simple weakness in the board.
Hiring a tech to look at your tub onsite would be the best solution as
we can do a lot more for you in person then we can trying to answer it on here for you. Plus no offence but the
average joe really shouldnt mess with a tubs electronics since it doesnt take much more then a wrong move to
cause some serious trouble for you.
If however your technically minded the simplest solution if you dont
need that offending jet pump is to simply unplug it from the control box. This will cut off its power supply and
render it effectively dead. Personally i wouldnt do that I'd just turn some of your jets off where you are
sitting and relax that way as most jets are easily turned on and off with a clockwise or counterclockwise
motion. But if thats what you want to do just make sure you have a circulation pump thats still running (so you
can heat the tub and in the winter keep it from freezing) and you can turn off any other pump you dont want by
pulling its plug.
From the information you gave me thats the best i can do for you without
being there personally to inspect it. Like i said you can always contact balboa if you want to try more things
but id suggest a tech to do it for you so you dont accidently light yourself up like a christmas
tree.
Best of luck
Ken asks…
hey i have a Balboa hot-tub and the jets are spraying everywhere can you
help. the knobs on the side do not?
no just a balboa
The Sage answers:
The water level is suppose to be higher than the jets by about two -
three inches to prevent the water from doing this. If it is blowing water through this layer of water then you
have some other jets lower in the system that are clogged and you need to unscrew the jet and flush them
out.
Joseph asks…
what does the code F1 mean on the control panel of a 1999 Balboa Hot Tub
?
The Sage answers:
Hi
F1 is for the time the hot tub cycles. 2 hours every 12 hours.
F2 is 4 hours every 12 hours.

Donald asks…
balboa hot tub trouble!!!!?
we just recently got this brand new hot tub and its been nothing but
trouble
its always shutting off
we've had the guys out here to fix it so many times already
my problem now is its not doing anything
it shows no temp and all it does is flow
the light wont turn on It wont let me change the temp
wont let me turn on the jets either
ive tried shuting the power on and off and nothing helps
i hate this hot tub
please help!
The Sage answers:
Hi! You can be having many different problems. If it is shutting off
when a pump comes on then it's obviously a pump. I am betting when it goes through it's filter cycle and various
pups come on the amp draw is too much and shuts it self down or a blower or perhaps even the heater. The tech
should make no more then 2 visits. Please tell me what brand/model of tub you have and what equipment it has. If
you have nothing but "FLO" on the screen the pressure switch is the problem. Replace it. Take the filters out
and see if it goes away. (If it does then clean your filters) IF it is not the pressure switch and you can find
that out by jumping it, then it is the board and it will have to be replaced. It could also even be the wire
since you said it's new that goes from the board to the pressure switch. It is weird to see new equipment fail.
But it happens. I wonder if your tech has any idea what he's doing. Feel free to email me directly and I can
call you and we can easily work it out over the phone in minutes.
For the comment from the man that you should have bought a Nordic tub. I
repair them as well and see the same amount of overall failure from them as most other brands. It's a decent
entry level tub.
